Someone you trusted let you down, and that wound is real. What's also real: you're not left to hold this by yourself.
“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
When you were betrayed
Betrayal hurts in a particular way, because it comes from someone you let close. You're not the first to feel this.
Someone you trusted let you down, and that wound is real. What's also real: you're not left to hold this by yourself.
“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
“Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.”
Even the Psalms name the pain of a trusted friend turning away.
“But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good.”
Joseph's brothers sold him - and his story still wasn't over.
“It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.”
People can fail you. God won't.
“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”
You don't have to settle the score yourself.
“When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.”
Even if the closest people let go, you are still held.
God, I trusted them and they hurt me. You know exactly how this feels. Heal my heart, protect me from bitterness, give me wisdom about who to trust, and in time help me forgive. Amen.
