Doubt doesn't disqualify you. Even the most honest prayer in the Bible was basically, 'I believe - now please help the rest of me catch up.'
“Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”
When you have doubts
Doubt doesn't put you outside of faith. Some of the most honest people in the Bible doubted out loud.
Doubt doesn't disqualify you. Even the most honest prayer in the Bible was basically, 'I believe - now please help the rest of me catch up.'
“Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”
“Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.”
Thomas asked for proof - and was met, not rejected.
“And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”
Notice what came first: the hand that caught him.
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Faith has always been about what we can't fully see yet.
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
Your questions can be a way of seeking.
“How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?”
Doubt has a place in the Psalms. It can have a place in your prayers too.
God, I'm not sure what I believe right now. I'm bringing you my questions instead of hiding them. Meet me where I am. I believe - help my unbelief. Amen.
